I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a point-and-click adventure game based upon Harlan Ellison's short story of the same title. The game's story is set in a world where an evil computer named AM has destroyed all of humanity except for five people, whom he has been keeping alive and torturing for the past 109 years.

Pure NintendoBill StitelerApr 20259/10I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream is a solid port of a classic point-and-click adventure game, co-designed by author Harlan Ellison, with enough alterations to make gameplay surprising even for those who've read the original story.

Games FreezerCasey RobertsMay 20259.5/10This is a game that may not be for everyone - but it really should be played by most. It is an amazing story that’s been wonderfully realised, it is powerful, and scary, and really makes you think. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream has top notch voice acting and the biggest problem that plagues it is easily alleviated with modern access to guides. I highly recommend experiencing this at least once, but I also recommend the original short story and listening to some Harlan Ellison interviews as well. I look forward to revisiting this in another ten years.

Cubed3Coller EntragianMar 20258/10In the end, Ellison/AM won. He got his game that slaps the player in the face, and yet it's hard to not stand back and be impressed by the sheer audacity of his creation. This is a monumentally messed up story wrapped up in a very hostile experience that has no interest in the player's enjoyment. Whether it's the playability, or the confusing puzzles, or the sadistic traps laid by the developers, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is not meant for average gamers. This is one for people with true grit in their hearts...and a little patience.
