Game InformerThe Mermaid Mask is the best Detective Grimoire adventure yet. Its art, music, voice cast, and puzzle design are all worthy of praise, but they're held together by a great story and a fun script, complete with all the quips and twists I've come to expect from SFB's mystery series.
ShacknewsTJ DenzerJul 20269/10The Mermaid Mask is a mystery full of quirk and intrigue that pulls the player in and keeps them going with a riveting story of wayward souls and their mysterious benefactor.

The Gamerheads Podcast Roger ReichardtAug 2026The Mermaid Mask is a fantastic point-and-click whodunit adventure. I love that the game doesn’t overtly hold my hand, allowing me to work through the case on my own, yet it’s so well designed that it still points me in the right direction. The art and music are so well done, and the voice acting is top-notch. It also features some of the best writing and humor I’ve experienced in a game. If you’re a fan of quirky murder mysteries like Knives Out, you need to check out The Mermaid Mask.

Nintendo LifeRoland IngramJul 20268/10The Mermaid Mask finds a brilliantly entertaining niche between deduction game and point-and-click. The tangled mystery of the death of Captain Mortuga is full of compelling twists and every suspect adds a surprise along the way. Some tacked-on logic puzzles slightly break the dramatic flow, but not enough to undo the magic of a well-constructed puzzle box of a game.

So Many GamesSteven LandrayAug 20263.5/5 starsAs far as narrative puzzle games go, The Mermaid Mask definitely doesn’t disappoint: the world, the people inhabiting it, and the dialogue in between will always be a treat, though it is let down by some pacing issues in its grand finale, as well as a few puzzles that are needlessly obtuse. Regardless, it proves itself a worthy addition to the Detective Grimoire series and hopefully not the last we will see. Sadly, a lack of meaningful accessibility options also means the game loses half a star.
