It presents a narrative that, at first, may seem like a simple “Repel the Alien Threat”- style story, but quickly turns into something far darker and much more poignant. The game doesn’t hold your hand; it expects you to learn from both reference material and trial and error. But it will reward you with an excellent tactical experience, and one hell of a gut-punch.

Worth PlayingChris "Atom" DeAngelusJun 20268/10Overall, assuming you don't mind the relatively low production values, R-Type Tactics I & II Cosmos is an excellent strategy RPG experience. The core gameplay is fun, the story is atmospheric and interesting, and the sheer amount of content means you're hard-pressed to find a better value for your dollar. You don't even need to be familiar with R-Type to enjoy the experience, but obviously, a familiarity with the franchise adds that little extra zing.
