8Bit/DigiStan RezaeeJun 202310/10Trepang2 is a satisfying fast-paced and over-the-top shooter that is also a reminder of an era defined by innovation. It’s an experience anyone can easily get into and will be mesmerized by the intense action. If you enjoyed classics like F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon then you will want to play Trepang2.

Garage Band GamersChad JohnsonOct 202310/10Trepang2 may not have the star power, seasonal content, expansion passes, or eSport following that other shooters have, but what it does have is a lean, thrilling shooter that is free from bloat and easy on the wallet.

Saving ContentScott Ellison IIJun 20232/5 starsTrepang2 is not as good as it wants to be, or as anyone would be led to believe. Trepang Studios certainly tried emulating Monolith's epic first-person shooter, and the gunplay certainly comes close to that, but they failed miserably at nearly everything else. This is a terrifically gory game, and it's great coating rooms in strawberry jam each and every time, but there's a lot of bad to get through before seeing the good. Trepang2 has only a few redeeming qualities, but even then those have been done better in other games. It's sad that Trepang2 is a pale imitation of F.E.A.R. in every way, and is a completely forgettable experience I can't recommend even a little.

Slant MagazineSteven ScaifeSep 20233/5 starsTrepang2’s default control scheme even neglects to map the crucial slide maneuver to any button, only triggering when you crouch while sprinting. This can be changed in the options menu, but the oversight speaks to how the game, which launched on PC back in June, hasn’t been rebalanced particularly well for its console release. As frustrations mount with the final level’s poor autosave and maddening boss fight, it becomes clearer than ever that a console is far from the ideal venue to experience this flawed yet inspired shooter.
