_Echo_ is Marvel’s boldest TV move yet, and it’s not afraid to step out of the typical superhero mold we’ve been getting. This series is gritty, unapologetic, and dives deep into the kind of street-level storytelling that made _Daredevil_ and the rest of the Netflix Marvel shows so beloved. If you’ve been craving something that feels less CGI-spectacle and more grounded in reality, _Echo_ might just be what you’ve been waiting for. Alaqua Cox is the beating heart of _Echo_, and Marvel’s decision to cast her as the lead is nothing short of a win. Cox’s portrayal of Maya Lopez is all about presence—her physicality, her use of sign language, and those subtle facial expressions give the character a depth and authenticity that’s rarely seen in the MCU. The fact that she’s a deaf Native American actress playing a deaf Native American hero is a major leap forward in representation, and it’s refreshing to see Marvel finally bringing these stories to the forefront. The show itself? It starts slow, no question.
