Slipstream is a racing game influenced and inspired by the OutRun series, SEGA games in general, Initial D, Vaporwave & Synthwave aesthetics and the spirit of 90s arcades. It uses a real pseudo3D engine to provide an authentic retro experience in a modern shell.

God is a GeekSean SmithApr 20229/10Slipstream is a terrific game, and cheap to boot. It is the ultimate evolution of the super scaler tech of my youth.

Thumb CultureApr 20225/5 starsI have nothing but praise for this game. Even with the omission of a mini-map, it is mitigated with the rewind feature. I had fun playing ‘Spot the Sonic Reference’ when driving on courses aswell.

PlayStation UniverseJohn-Paul JonesApr 20228.5/10A beautifully crafted love letter to Sega's Out Run, until the latter publisher decides to get their act together, Slipstream is not only the closest you'll get to recreating Sega's classic arcade racer on contemporary hardware, but it also adds enough new parts and components to this vintage ride to make it well worth taking in 2022.

Pure NintendoApr 20226/10There's no doubt Slipstream has issues, but the core gameplay mechanics are fun enough that you may be able to look past them as I could and enjoy some knockoff Out Run.

Nintendo LifeChris ScullionApr 20227/10Slipstream's retro design feels a little by-the-numbers to us (its cool 2D/3D visual effect aside), but that's not to say it doesn't pull off the mechanics well. It shouldn't be the first game in your retro racing collection with the likes of Sega Ages Out Run and Horizon Chase Turbo already available, but if you've played through those and are itching for more then you could do a lot worse than this, especially given its modest price.
