Marooners' RockMatt KowalskiMay 20229.1/10Our small taste of Kao the Kangaroo at PAX East left us craving more and we can say that we have not been disappointed. That taste gave us enough to get a feel of what the game has to offer and thankfully the rest of the game lives up to those expectations. If you’d like a modern platformer with subtle pop culture nods then you will love KAO the Kangaroo. This game is easy to pick up whether you are 4 or 13 going on 30. Honestly, for never hearing of the franchise before PAX East 2022, it makes us want to go back and play some of the older titles. We might just have to do that or wait til the other two games get a reboot. If you like platformers and/or kangaroos, you should enjoy this game.

COGconnectedJaz SagooMay 202283/100Kao The Kangaroo is an excellent 3D platformer that captures the magic of the golden era. The solid mechanics and great level design make this nostalgic adventure a joy. Even though it’s not particularly difficult and sticks to conventions, it will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

Niche GamerFingal BelmontMay 20228/10Despite still relying on a lives mechanic, Kao the Kangaroo is still a very easy going 3D platformer aimed for kids. The intended target audience will likely adore this title and gamers who grew up and miss games like this will feel like they are coming home.

TheGamerGeorge FosterMay 20222.5/5 starsKao the Kangaroo’s core mechanics are solid and some of the things it adds to the series, like the elemental gloves, help keep things interesting, but it’s nothing that the genre hasn’t seen before, and some of those changes end up actively taking away from the experience. There’s good to be found here, but it’s weighed down by so much jank and a lack of innovation that it doesn’t feel like the welcome back that Kao deserves.

Hey Poor PlayerJosh SpeerJun 20222/5I really wanted to love Kao the Kangaroo. And while I did enjoy parts of it, the severe glitch I encountered kept me from progressing like I had expected to and effectively kept me from actually beating the game. Once Nintendo gets around to implementing the patch, I could potentially recommend the experience. But until version 1.2 goes live, I cannot recommend it to other platformer fans in good conscience.
