PlayStation UniverseJohn-Paul JonesJan 20209.5/10A soaring achievement in the genre, very minor technical issues aren't enough to detract from the fact that Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire: Ultimate Edition is the first must-have game of 2020 and the finest RPG in an age. Adventures don't come much more essential than this.

Just Push StartPhillip PriceFeb 20204.5/5While the frequency and duration of loading time in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is painful at best, the superb writing, extraordinary voice acting, and immersive soundtrack makes this one that should not be missed. There is a reason Pillars of Eternity 2 was nominated for over a half-dozen awards in 2018, and any cRPG fan worth their weight in salt owes it to themselves to add masterpiece to their collection.

Digitally DownloadedMatt SainsburyFeb 20203/5 starsOn the one hand, the sheer quality of the game is evident in bounds, and as a homage to the mighty Baldur's Gate, it continues on the excellent trajectory set down by its predecessor. On the other hand, those loading times really are so bad that I neither enjoy my time with the game, nor want to play it.
